The Dawson Jockey Club has recently installed 600 metres of running rail. The Brisbane Racing Club at Doomben provided the running rail and the posts were supplied by the Gold Coast Turf Club.
This was made possible by Queensland Racing’s new Club Cooperation Scheme. Under the mentoring arrangement larger clubs support smaller clubs, such as the Dawson Jockey Club.
Previously the club had tape in place which met the minimum Workplace Health and Safety Standards. President Graham Rewald said that the club had now upgraded from the minimum standard and that the new rail improves safety for horses and patrons.
Mr Rewald said, “We are grateful to have received assistance through the Club Cooperation Scheme.” He estimates that purchasing the new section of running rail would have cost more than $16,000. The installation was undertaken by club members and volunteers.
